Margaret O’Halloran is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist providing a first-class counselling and personal therapy service in Kerry.

Qualified with a Honours Degree from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS), Margaret has been counselling since 2012 and established O’Halloran Counselling Services in January 2015. Presently she is based in Tralee, where she works out of the All-Therapy Centre in Rock Street, and she also has an office in Listowel.

Margaret works with clients on a one-to-one basis and her working environment offers clients a comfortable, discreet and safe environment in which to work through the problems and issues they present with.

Margaret is professionally trained and qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Gestalt techniques and psychometric testing, among other techniques, which she uses with clients.

BACKGROUND


Margaret O’Halloran comes from a background in the hospitality industry, with over 18 years experience in hotels and tourism. At the age of 35 she returned to college to pursue her dream of working as a counsellor. Five years later Margaret graduated with an honours degree and is now fulfilling her vocation of working with people to facilitate them in overcoming adversary,

empowering them to cope with life’s many challenge, and assisting them improve their quality of life.

VOLUNTARY WORK


Margaret has worked and continues to work in a voluntary capacity with several charities. In 2016 she a key member of the Cycle Against Suicide (CAS) committee that brought the fundraising and awareness cycle event to Tralee and Ballyheigue. Margaret led the team in bringing mental health organisations (MHO) to Ballyheigue for the event. She also volunteered as an on-site counsellor at CAS’s annual Student Leaders Congress in Limerick.

WOMEN’S MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH


A topic Margaret has particular expertise in is women’s maternal health, and all aspects around fertility, conception, pregnancy and childbirth. Margaret is the Kerry counsellor for Nurture (www.nurturecharity.org), a nationwide charity specialising in women’s maternal health issues. Help is available for women, and their partners, who are experiencing problems with infertility and IVF, pre- and post-natal depression, childbirth, infant mortality and all stress related illness around pregnancy and childbirth.

EARLY YEARS SUPPORT CENTRE


Margaret is also the psychotherapist at the Early Years Support Centre based in The Oakview Village Childcare in Tralee. This recently established service offers specialised speech and language services, occupational therapy, play therapy, child nutrition, psychotherapy and child psychology. Margaret’s role as the Centre’s psychotherapist involves a one-to-one relationship with a parent or guardian to provide the support necessary to enable that person talk about and deal with the events and experiences that have adversely affected their life and their state of mind. The types of personal and familial issues that Margaret deals with include support around diagnosis, bullying, stress, returning to work, separation anxiety, family bereavement and guilt.
